About the Collection
The Tortoise Reserve maintains a collection of chelonian slides. Our goal is to obtain images of all described taxa, including photographs of males, females, hatchlings, behavior and habitats. At this time we have over 10,000 catalogued slides representing about 70% of the world's species. To date we have all North American species and subspecies and all Antillean and marine species. Major gaps still exist for all other regions.

Slides are available (Go to stuff for sale) for educational (projection) use and for publication in non commercial outlets (newsletters, etc.). For the latter permission must be obtained and the Tortoise Reserve and the photographer acknowledged. Photographers retain the copyright on all images. All images shown on this web site are copyrighted and we request that you do not download them for any use.

Labeled slides are sold individually and in regional sets and in our educational species profile series. Our main objective is educational availability and because of this we have deliberately established narrow profit margins. All profits, such as they are, go to existing conservation programs.

Slides of the turtle photos available are listed taxonomically and slide quality is scored as follows: 1. Why do you want this, 2. hum?, 3. ok but some flaw, 4-6 good slides suitable for projection, or newsletters, 7 quality photograph, 8-10 suitable for publication (in fact many have been published) with 10 being excellent.
